Episode 35: Marza Panther (musician)

Marza Panther is a cellist, composer, singer and songwriter who draws on a wide range of influences from folk and world to alternative, metal, dance and pop. She uses found sounds such as dog panting, breathing, water, coins, matches and other noises to create unique percussive layers, tethering her music to the natural world. While the lyrics are mostly dark and sorrowful, there is an underlying hopefulness in the mere act of singing them that seeps through to the listener. Lush vocals and cellos ultimately rise to triumph over the more dissonant elements of the songs. Marza approaches the songwriting process from many different directions, using a different instrument each time as a starting point. She is endlessly fascinated by the act of creating something beautiful out of the void.
